| 1972 750 Roadster |
| I bought this 1972,
750 Roadster from someone called Stumpy in about 1984, in Hertfordshire,
England. The Engine was in great shape (built by Andy my old school
friend of FD Motorcycles). I did quite a bit of work to it & John
painted it 'Candy Apple' Red. This Commando used to really fly, and I
rode it like a lunatic for a long time.
Late 1985 I was pulled over in Chelmsford, England with 3 pints of 'Bishop's Tipple' Ale in me. The policeman gave chase in a Ford 2.8 Ltr. injection Granada, down a small country lane, but I could not loose him, ( I put it down to sloppy Isolastics). Consequently I was busted, fined and banned from driving for a year.
I could not stop riding even after being banned. I was chased again and got away. At this point I took the bike to pieces. My good friend Chris whose house I was living in didn't seem to mind me doing a major rebuild in his front room. So I was riding my bicycle to work everyday. It was getting old real quick, life didn't seem to be going anywhere. I was about 3/4 of the way through the rebuild, when I sold it to Andy's friend Geoff who put it back together. I left the country to work at sea for years. I think Geoff still owns the bike. |
